nomad patchesについて
nomad patchesは、アメリカ・オレゴン州ポートランドを拠点とするワッペンブランドです。オーナーのSpencerが、自らの体験や旅から着想を得て、一つひとつのデザインに物語を込めています。
すべてのワッペンはアメリカ製。生産はペンシルベニア州のFalls Creek Outfittersが担当しています。多くのアメリカブランドから信頼を集める家族経営のメーカーで、その品質と確かなものづくりで知られています。
私がnomad patchesに惹かれた最初の理由は、「ワッペンだけを作るブランド」という潔さでした。しかもそのデザインは、ただ見た目が魅力的なだけではありません。Spencer自身の体験や好きなものが背景にあり、一つひとつにしっかりとしたストーリーがあります。
中にはSF映画や文学作品から着想を得たデザインもありますが、その元ネタを知らなくても十分に魅力的です。作品からは静かな優しさや人間味が伝わってきて、私はそこに強く惹かれました。それが、このブランドを取り扱いたいと思った理由でもあります。
ブランドのはじまり
nomad patchesの始まりは2015年。Spencerが家族との自転車旅を終えたあと、その旅のために作ったワッペンが余ったことがきっかけでした。数種類のワッペンからスタートしたブランドは、オンラインショップと口コミによって少しずつ広がっていきました。
2017年には兄弟たちとキャンプへ出かけ、簡素なシェルターで過ごし、ウールブランケットにくるまり、鋳鉄製のフライパンでベーコンと卵を焼く時間を楽しみました。その経験から生まれたのが「Hobbit Camping Club Patch」です。
日本とのつながり
翌年の2018年には、奥さんのSamとともに3週間にわたる日本縦断の自転車旅を行いました。旅の途中ではステッカーを配りながら各地の人々と交流し、以前から縁のあったBAKANSU CYCLESさんとも再会しました。
また、Spencerはワッペンをデザインし始める前の2010年に半年間幕張に住んでいた経験があり、その頃にDepot Cyclesのタマさんと知り合い、バイクポロも始めたそうです。日本で出会った人たちへの感謝の気持ちから作られたステッカーは、後にブランドのラインナップ拡充にもつながりました。そうした縁のひとつが、現在も続くBAKANSU CYCLESさんとのつながりです。
旅の続きを
Spencerが作るワッペンは、彼自身が実際に経験した旅や出来事から生まれています。そしてそれらをバッグやジャケットに付け、自分自身の旅へ連れて行ってほしいと願っています。使い込まれるなかで新たな物語が重なり、その人だけの意味を持つ存在になってほしいとのこと。
nomad patchesは、そんな想いを大切にしながら、今も静かに活動を続けています。
現在、日本国内での正規取扱店は、千葉県市川市のBAKANSU CYCLESさんと、Burrito Houseの2店舗のみです。

About nomad patches
nomad patches is a patch brand based in Portland, Oregon. Founded by Spencer, each design is inspired by his own travels, experiences, and everyday interests, with a story woven into every patch.
All patches are proudly made in the USA. Production is handled by Falls Creek Outfitters in Pennsylvania, a respected family-owned manufacturer trusted by many American brands for their quality and craftsmanship.
What first drew me to nomad patches was the simplicity of the concept—a brand dedicated entirely to patches. There’s something refreshingly honest about that approach. But beyond the visual appeal, each design is rooted in Spencer’s personal experiences and passions, giving the brand a genuine sense of character.
Some designs are inspired by science fiction films and literature, yet they remain engaging even if you don’t know the references. There’s a quiet kindness and humanity in the artwork that I immediately connected with, and that feeling is ultimately what made me want to carry the brand.
How It Began
nomad patches started in 2015 after Spencer and his family completed a bicycle tour and found themselves with extra patches made for the trip. What began with just a handful of designs slowly grew through an online shop and word of mouth.
In 2017, Spencer went camping with his brothers, spending time in simple shelters, sleeping under wool blankets, and cooking eggs and bacon in cast iron pans. That experience later became the inspiration for the “Hobbit Camping Club Patch“
A Connection to Japan
In 2018, Spencer and his wife Sam spent three weeks bike touring across Japan. Along the way, they handed out stickers, met people from different cycling communities, and reconnected with BAKANSU CYCLES, a relationship that continues to this day.
Japan had already played a meaningful role in Spencer’s life. Before he began designing patches, he spent six months living in Makuhari in 2010, where he met Tamakun from Depot Cycles and was introduced to Bike Polo. The stickers he later created as a thank-you to the people he met in Japan eventually became part of the brand’s growing lineup. One of the connections that grew from those experiences was BAKANSU CYCLES.
The Journey Continues
The patches Spencer creates come directly from the adventures, places, and moments he has personally experienced. His hope is that people will attach them to bags and jackets, take them on their own journeys, and allow them to collect new stories along the way.
nomad patches continues quietly in that spirit today.
Currently, the only official retailers in Japan are BAKANSU CYCLES in Ichikawa, Chiba, and Burrito House.
