The Broken Spoke
2025年10月16日。Santa Fe 5日目。今日はサンタフェで2軒目の自転車屋さん「The Broken Spoke」を訪ねました。いろいろな方から名前を聞いていたお店。さらに、General ManagerのNathanからも連絡をもらい、夕方に伺うことにしました。
「閉店後にライドに行って、そのまま夕飯でもどう？」
そんな嬉しい誘いをもらい、少し早めにお店へ。まずはゆっくり店内を見させてもらいます。
何度も言っていますが、アメリカの自転車屋さんは広い。国土は日本の約25倍。単純比較はできないと分かっていても、それでも広い。
The Broken Spokeは、その広い空間に車体がぎっしりと詰まっている。写真でどこまで伝わるか分かりませんが、とにかく情報量が多い。TREK、Yeti、Kona、Surlyなどを扱う正規取扱店。MTBが多い印象でした。
地元メディア「Santa Fe Reporter」の読者投票で2025年の部門別1位を取っている、頼れるローカルショップ。常連らしき人たちの空気感や、休みなく動くメカニックの姿を見て、ここはサンタフェのサイクリングコミュニティを回しているインフラのような存在なのだと感じました。
Nathanは店内を案内してくれ、たくさん写真も撮らせてくれました。
日が傾きはじめたころ、僕たちは店を出てライドへ。

Day 16 in the U.S.: The Broken Spoke
October 16, 2025. My fifth day in Santa Fe.
Today I visited The Broken Spoke, the second bike shop I’ve been to here. I had heard the name from several people, and I’d also received a message from Nathan, the General Manager, so we decided I would stop by in the evening.
“Why don’t we go for a ride after closing and grab dinner?”
A generous invitation. I arrived a little early so I could take my time looking around the shop.
I’ve said this many times, but bike shops in the U.S. are big. The country itself is about 25 times the size of Japan. It’s probably unfair to compare, but still — they’re big.
The Broken Spoke fills that large space with bikes, packed tightly together. I’m not sure how much the photos will convey, but there’s simply a lot to take in. They carry brands like TREK, Yeti, Kona, and Surly. I noticed a strong presence of MTBs.
The shop has been voted No.1 in its category in the 2025 readers’ poll by the local paper, Santa Fe Reporter. It feels like a dependable neighborhood shop. Watching the regulars come and go, and the mechanics working nonstop, I had the impression that this place functions almost like infrastructure for Santa Fe’s cycling community.
Nathan showed me around and kindly let me take plenty of photos.
As the sun began to dip, we left the shop and headed out for a ride.
