まず向かったのは「Allez LA!」
2025年10月29日。アメリカ29日目。
今日はアリゾナ州キングマンからロサンゼルスまで移動。渋滞にもほとんどハマらず、お昼はLAエリアで食べることができました。
ということで、早速一軒目の自転車屋さんへ。
ブリトーハウスのInstagramで「LAでおすすめの自転車屋さんは？」と聞いたとき、ダントツで名前が挙がったのがAllez LA!でした。Send It Safelyともコラボしているお店なので、その話もできたらいいなと思いながら向かいました。お店は特徴的な外観だったこともあり、すぐに発見。
ただ、お店前の道路は「15分まで駐車可」のような場所だったため、まずは車を停める場所探しから。周辺は住宅街だったので3〜4ブロック奥へ入ると、比較的空いている路上スペースがあり、無事に駐車。
LAシーンを知らなすぎるブリトーハウス
店内はピットスペースと売り場に分かれた造り。これまでオクラホマやニューメキシコで見てきたお店に比べると、良い意味でこぢんまりとしていて、「趣味のお店」という雰囲気でした。訪れたのは2025年10月末。その後Cypress Aveへ移転しているので、現在はもっと広いお店になっているようです。
LAシーンをまったく知らない私は、お店で「Kyleという人をSend It Safelyに紹介してもらったんだけど……」とKyle本人に聞くというお粗末さ。あまりにもシーンを知らなすぎるブリトーハウスです。
それでもKyleをはじめスタッフのみなさんはとてもウェルカム。オクラホマやニューメキシコともまた違う空気を感じました。
つい見てしまうバッグたち
店内にはアメリカのハンドメイドバッグもたくさん並んでいて、思わず見てしまいます。初めて見るブランドも多く、つい見入ってしまいます。今回の旅で一番インディペンデントなバッグブランドを置いているのはAllez LA!でした。
せっかく立ち寄ったので何か一つ持ち帰りたいと思って店内を見ていたところ、以前買い逃していたSend It Safelyのナルゲンボトルを発見。今回は迷わずこちらにしました。LAに来てもニューメキシコをひっぱっています。
そして毎回思うのですが、一緒に写真を撮ってもらうと、なぜか捕獲された宇宙人みたいに写ってしまうのを何とかしたい。
LAのおすすめを聞いてみる
Allez LA!が最初のお店だったので、Kyleにおすすめの自転車屋さんをいくつか教えてもらいました。フォロワーさんから教えていただいたお店もありましたが、知らないお店もちらほら。
帰り際には、Allez LA!のシンボルでもある「LA」の文字をかたどったベンチでKyle自ら写真を撮ってくれ、その写真をAllez LA!のInstagramにも投稿してくれました。こういうファンサービスのような距離感も、競争の激しいLAで愛される理由の一つなのかもしれません。
店主がまさかの外出中
次は教えてもらったお店の中で一番近い場所へ。ところが場所がかなり分かりづらく、やっと見つけても今度は駐車場所探しに苦戦。ようやく停めて歩いて行くと、入り口には
「外出中。すぐ戻ります。」の貼り紙。
ただ、車を停めた場所が長時間置けそうになかったので、ここは潔く諦めて次のお店へ向かいます。
Luft LAへ
気分を変えて向かったのは、ベニスビーチ近くにあるLuft LA。車を走らせていると、街の雰囲気が少しずつ変わっていきます。うまく言葉では表現できませんが、道路や住宅街の雰囲気がなんとなく海っぽくなっていきます。
Luft LAは、LAのサイクリングカルチャーを発信するカフェ兼バイクショップ。ロード寄りのグラベルバイクが多く並んでいました。オクラホマへ行った話をすると、DISTRICT BICYCLESの名前が出てきて、思わぬ共通の話題で盛り上がることができました。対応してくれたWesもとてもナイスガイでした。
今日の締めくくり
ほど良い時間になったので、予約していたモーテルへ。
広いLAで当日に宿を探すのはあまりにも効率が悪いので、今回は空港近くに2泊分を予約済み。Luft LAからは車で15分ほどの距離でしたが、夕方の渋滞に巻き込まれて到着まで約1時間。その1時間のおかげでLAの街の空気を少し味わえた気がします。

First Stop: Allez LA!
October 29, 2025 — Day 29 in the USA.
Today I drove from Kingman, Arizona, to Los Angeles. I managed to avoid most of the traffic and even made it into the LA area in time for lunch.
So, it was time to visit my first bike shop.
When I asked on the Burrito House Instagram, “Which bike shops should I visit in LA?”, Allez LA! was by far the most recommended. Since they’ve also collaborated with Send It Safely, I was hoping we could chat about that too. The shop was easy to spot thanks to its distinctive storefront.
Parking was the first challenge, though. The spaces right in front of the shop were limited to about 15 minutes, so I drove a few blocks into the nearby residential streets. Luckily, I found an open spot and parked without any trouble.
Burrito House Knows Almost Nothing About the LA Scene
The shop was split between a workshop area and a retail space. Compared to the shops I’d visited in Oklahoma and New Mexico, it was much smaller—in a good way. It felt like a true enthusiast’s shop.
Not knowing the LA scene at all, I walked in and asked, “Send It Safely told me to look for someone named Kyle…” only to realize I was talking to Kyle himself. A pretty embarrassing Burrito House moment.
Even so, Kyle and the rest of the staff were incredibly welcoming. The atmosphere felt different from what I’d experienced in Oklahoma and New Mexico, but just as inviting.
The Bags That Kept Catching My Eye
The shop had a great selection of American handmade bags, and I couldn’t stop looking at them. There were plenty of brands I had never seen before, and Allez LA! ended up having the best selection of independent bag makers I came across on the entire trip.
Since I wanted to take something home from the shop, I looked around for a while. Then I spotted the Send It Safely Nalgene bottle that I had missed out on before. That made the decision easy. Somehow, even in LA, I still ended up bringing a little bit of New Mexico home with me.
One thing I really need to figure out, though—I always end up looking like a captured alien whenever someone takes a photo of me.
Asking for More LA Recommendations
Since Allez LA! was my first stop, I asked Kyle for recommendations on other bike shops around LA. Some of them had already been suggested by my Instagram followers, while others were completely new to me.
Before I left, Kyle took a photo of me on Allez LA!’s iconic LA-shaped bench and even posted it on their Instagram. That kind of personal touch is probably one of the reasons the shop stands out in such a competitive city.
The Shop Owner Was Out
My next stop was the closest shop Kyle had recommended. It was surprisingly hard to find, and after finally locating it, I had another battle trying to find parking. When I eventually walked over, there was a note on the door:
“Out. Be right back.”
Unfortunately, the place I had parked didn’t seem like somewhere I could leave the car for long, so I decided to move on.
On to Luft LA
To change things up, I headed toward Luft LA near Venice Beach. As I drove, the atmosphere gradually changed. It’s hard to describe exactly, but the streets and neighborhoods somehow started to feel closer to the ocean.
Luft LA is a café and bike shop that celebrates LA’s cycling culture, with a strong focus on road and gravel bikes. When I mentioned my visit to Oklahoma, DISTRICT BICYCLES came up in the conversation, which gave us an unexpected connection. Wes, who helped me, was a genuinely nice guy.
Wrapping Up the Day
It was getting late, so I headed to the motel I had already booked.
Trying to find a place to stay at the last minute in a city as big as LA just isn’t worth the effort, so I had reserved two nights near the airport. Luft LA was only about a 15-minute drive away, but evening traffic stretched the trip to almost an hour. Looking back, that extra hour gave me a chance to experience a little more of the city’s rhythm.
Tomorrow, I’ll spend another full day visiting bike shops.
