JibranとThe Cub Houseへ
さてLA2日目。1日目はアリゾナ州キングマンを出発し、昼頃にはロサンゼルスへ到着。2件の自転車屋さんを巡りました。今日も盛り沢山な1日です。
今回のアメリカ滞在中は、本当に多くの方から声をかけていただきました。そのうちの一人、Jibranと朝待ち合わせをして一日がスタート。彼のおすすめで、最初に向かったのはThe Cub Houseです。
近くのカフェで待ち合わせをし、日本のことや彼の地元の話でしばらく盛り上がりました。彼はニューオリンズで新しいショップ「Nola Film Plug」のオープン準備中。カメラと自転車を組み合わせた、とても面白そうなお店です。今回は、お店で取り扱うブランドを探しに来ていたそうです。
ひとしきりおしゃべりした後は、一緒にThe Cub Houseへ向かいました。
自転車ショップと植物屋（サボテン・多肉植物）が一緒になったユニークなお店。旧整備工場跡を活用した空間で、ゆるいけれどセンスのある雰囲気が印象的でした。
お店のあるサン・マリノは、LAの中でも落ち着いた住宅街エリア。Bryanやスタッフのみなさんも気さくで、終始ウェルカムなムード。とにかくオリジナルグッズが豊富で、またひと味違う空気感を持ったお店でした。
Arts Districtの東側へ
Jibranとはここでお別れし、今回のアメリカ滞在最後のお店へ。Fabrica De Rosaで締めます。ここも多くの方たちからおすすめをもらいました。
LAのArts Districtは、古い倉庫をリノベーションしたカフェやギャラリー、小さなブランドが集まる人気エリア。そのすぐ東側、ロサンゼルス川を渡ると、倉庫や工場が今も残る工業エリアが広がります。その一角に、Fabrica De Rosaがあります。Arts Districtとはまた違う空気が流れる場所でした。
Jaimeとの出会い
特にアポイントは取っていませんでしたが、とりあえずオープン時間に合わせて到着。しかし誰もいません。
昨日のように今回もお店に入れないまま終わるかなと思いながら、お店周辺の雰囲気が良かったので写真を撮っていると、オーナーのJaimeがシンプルなTOYOTAのトラックで到着。
危ない、周辺をぶらぶらしていて正解でした。
Jaimeも本当に気さくな人で、たまたまお客さんとして来ていたJessと3人で話が弾み、気づけばけっこう長居していました。
そして「最後の晩餐」におすすめのブリトー屋さんを紹介してもらい、メニューはiPhoneのメモ帳に直接入力してもらうというローカル感。間違いのない選択でした。
明日はアメリカ最終日
とうとう明日はアメリカ最終日。といっても午前にLA発の便なので、ホテルから空港へ直行です。

Day 30 in America: Los Angeles – Day 2
Meeting Jibran and Visiting The Cub House
Day two in LA started with an early meetup with Jibran.
The day before, I had driven in from Kingman, Arizona, arriving in Los Angeles around noon before visiting two bike shops. Today was just as packed.
Throughout this trip, I was fortunate to meet so many people who reached out and offered recommendations. Jibran was one of them, and he suggested we start the day at The Cub House.
We met at a nearby café and spent some time chatting about Japan, his hometown, and bikes. He’s currently getting ready to open a new shop in New Orleans called Nola Film Plug—a space that blends cycling and film photography, which sounds like a perfect combination. He was in LA looking for brands to carry in his shop.
After coffee, we headed over to The Cub House together.
The Cub House is a unique combination of a bike shop and a plant shop specializing in cacti and succulents. Housed in a converted service garage, the space felt relaxed, creative, and full of personality.
Located in San Marino, a quiet residential area just outside central LA, the shop had a welcoming atmosphere from the moment we walked in. Bryan and the staff were incredibly friendly, and the shelves were packed with original merchandise that gave the shop its own distinct identity.
Heading East of the Arts District
After saying goodbye to Jibran, I made my way to the final stop of this trip: Fabrica De Rosa.
Several people had recommended the shop, so I couldn’t leave LA without visiting.
Most people know LA’s Arts District for its renovated warehouses, cafés, galleries, and independent brands. Cross the Los Angeles River just east of the neighborhood, though, and the atmosphere changes completely. Warehouses and industrial buildings still dominate the area, giving it a much more working-class feel.
That’s where Fabrica De Rosa is located.
Meeting Jaime
I hadn’t made an appointment, but I showed up right when the shop was supposed to open.
No one was there.
For a moment I thought this visit might end the same way as the day before—with the shop closed. Since the neighborhood looked interesting, I started walking around and taking photos.
A few minutes later, Jaime, the owner, pulled up in a simple Toyota pickup truck.
Good thing I decided to stick around.
Jaime turned out to be just as welcoming as everyone had described. Along with Jess, who happened to stop by as a customer, we ended up talking for quite a while.
Before I left, they recommended a local burrito spot for my “last supper” in America. Jaime even typed the order directly into my iPhone Notes so I wouldn’t mess it up.
It was exactly the kind of local recommendation I was hoping for—and it didn’t disappoint.
Tomorrow Is the Final Day
Tomorrow is my last day in America.
My flight leaves Los Angeles in the morning, so it’ll simply be a drive from the hotel to the airport.
