2025年10月27日。ニューメキシコ16日目。
今日はサンタフェ最終日。帰りに向けた荷造りも終わりのんびりと過ごす予定。
先日会ったSonnyから、「サンタフェからアルバカーキまで電車で行けるんだ。自転車も載せられるし、お昼でも食べに行かない？」と誘われていました。
ただ、3日前に入れたTattooに傷が入ったら…と、かなり過保護な気持ちが働き、今回は丁重にお断り。その代わり、サンタフェで一緒にコーヒーを飲みに行くことにしました。
Iconik Coffee Roasters, Lupe
向かったのは、彼のお気に入りの「Iconik Coffee Roasters, Lupe」。
Iconik Coffeeはサンタフェに3店舗あり、それぞれに違ったこだわりがあります。古い建物を活かして店舗として使いながら、直接取引（Direct Trade）を重視し、豆の背景まで大切にしているコーヒーショップ。
Nathanにもおすすめされていたこともあり、地元の人たちにしっかり根付いているお店なんだろうなと思いました。
Sonnyの時間を割くのも悪いとは思いながらも、気づけばいろいろな話題について話し込み、数時間一緒にコーヒーを飲んでいました。
彼はイラストレーターでもあるので、いつかどこかでデザインをお願いしたいという気持ちも伝え、またサンタフェで会おうと約束。
二度にわたって貴重な時間を割いてくれて、本当にありがとう。
サンタフェの空気の中で撮る
そのあとは、せっかくなので仕入れた商品の撮影へ。
背景に選んだのは、先日走ったRail Trail。
写真を撮りながら、やっぱりサンタフェの空気は違うと感じました。この空気感を日本で出すのは、素人の私にはなかなか難しい。
そしてやはり、この地で生まれたものはここがよく似合う。
SITE SANTA FE
締めくくりは現代アート美術館「SITE SANTA FE」へ。
アートについての知識は正直1ミリもないので、展示そのものよりも建物や空気を感じに行った、という方が近いかもしれません。
さぁ、明日からはロサンゼルスへ向けて出発。
どこかで1泊してからロス入りし、残り2日ほど自転車屋を巡って日本へ帰ります。今日の他の写真はこちらから。
US Day 27: Last Day in Santa Fe
October 27, 2025. Day 16 in New Mexico. Today was my last day in Santa Fe. Packing for the trip home is done, so I’m planning to take it easy and spend the rest of the day relaxing.
A few days ago, Sonny asked if I wanted to take the train from Santa Fe to Albuquerque for lunch. Apparently you can bring your bike on the train too.
But I had gotten a tattoo three days earlier, and I was probably being a little overprotective about not messing it up, so I politely passed this time. Instead, we decided to grab coffee together in Santa Fe.
Iconik Coffee Roasters, Lupe
We went to his favorite spot, Iconik Coffee Roasters, Lupe. Iconik has three locations in Santa Fe, each with its own character. They make use of old buildings as their shops, focus on direct trade, and seem to care deeply about the story behind the beans. Nathan had recommended it to me too, so it felt like one of those places that’s really rooted in the local community.
I felt a little bad taking up Sonny’s time, but before I knew it, we had been talking for hours over coffee, jumping from one topic to another. He’s also an illustrator, so I told him I’d love to work together on some designs someday. We said we’d meet again in Santa Fe.
Thanks again for making time for me, twice.
Shooting in the Santa Fe Air
After that, I went to photograph some of the products I had picked up.
I chose the Rail Trail I rode the other day as the backdrop.
While taking photos, I was reminded again that Santa Fe really has its own kind of air. It’s hard for me to recreate this atmosphere back in Japan. And once again, I felt that things born in this place simply belong here.

To wrap up the day, I stopped by the contemporary art museum, SITE SANTA FE.
To be honest, I know almost nothing about art, so I was probably more there for the building and the atmosphere than the exhibition itself.
Tomorrow, I start heading toward Los Angeles. I’ll stop somewhere for a night on the way, spend the last couple of days visiting bike shops in LA, and then head back to Japan.
